A Dream I Almost Had
"In Ava's Head"
There is a girl named Ava, she has an illness called schizophrenia which is a serious mental disorder in which people interpret reality abnormally. Ava lives in one of the oldest villages in Palawan far from the city, the Motonui village. Ava belongs to tribe Batak (The Batak tribe is a group of indigenous people who live in the rugged interiors of the northeast portion of the province of Palawan). She has the desire to live in the city and travel the beauty of the whole Palawan.
It was June 25th, 1989. The drive of Ava became more intense, she went on Mt Mantalingajan to pray for the nature spirit, babaylan, which they believed their blessings came from. As she was praying, her illness started to strike. Ava hallucinates that she is living in the city of Puerto Princesa with her tribe, during her hallucination she fulfilled her long-time desire. She went on the places that are marked as historical in the Puerto Princesa, one of which is Plaza Quartel. “Wow, this place is amazing. I cannot believe this; this was just my dream before but now I am living my dream”. Ava enjoyed and loved the place. As she was leaving, she bumped into a man’s shoulder and fell on the ground. The man reached his hands to Ava and asked her “are you okay?” Ava replied “Uh, Yes I am”. The man noticed that there was a scratch on Ava’s knee. “OH, THERE IS A SCRATCH ON YOUR KNEE, YOU SIT IN HERE WAIT FOR ME I WILL JUST BUY YOU SOME BAND AID”. A few minutes later the man returned. “Here, use this to cover your scratch”. “Thank you”, Ava said with a bit of blushing. “By the way, do you live here?” Ava asked. “Yes, I've been living here since I was born, why? Is there anything that I can help you with?” The Man replied. “Oh, well. I am new here, I don’t know any places here except for this, now if you mind can you show me around? It is my dream to explore Palawan” Ava requested. “Sure” the man replied (he finds Ava cute) and asked for Ava's name. “My name is Ava, what’s yours”. I am “Makisig“. Ava said goodbye to Makisig, but a heavy rain suddenly poured.
So Makisig offers Ava a ride and asks her to stay in his place and wait for the night to pass off. “When morning comes, we will start to make your dreams come true” Makisig said. *Ava expresses excitement and smiles at Makisig while looking in his eyes*.
The sun arises, and the sound of the chickens has started to be heard. 5 30 am in the morning when Makisig woke up and prepare for their trip, he wakes up ava and tell her to prepare as well. After the preparation they both started to walk and the first place that Makisig wants to show ava is the Fort Santa Isabel, Makisig said “Look at the Must-See place in town, the Fort Santa Isabel. It was constructed by the Spanish 350 years ago and as u can see it still stands today”. “Amazing, this is great. I did not imagine that i would see this place” ava replied. “Well thank me, you owe me a kiss” Makisig said while being shy. Ava stared at Makisig and was speechless for what Makisig has said. From there ava started to admire Makisig for he is playful, kind, and caring even though they just met. Makisig told ava “Hoy, you’re drooling stop staring at me”. Ava showed a little smile. Makisig suggests going to another beautiful and historical place The immaculate conception of cathedral, Makisig wants to bring ava to the church and kiss her. Ava walked with Makisig heading to the church. When they arrived on church another heavy rain pours, they went inside the church and waited for the rain to stop. “Ava, if you were to get married where would you do it?” Makisig asked. “Well, anywhere. You?” as replied by ava. “Uhm, here This is my dream wedding place (stared at ava and initiates a kiss)”.
But as the lips of both of them get closer and closer Makisig disappeared and Ava is in front of her tribes, her tribes were looking for her all day, everything that has happened was not true and it was only because of her illness. Ava cannot believe it so she continues to find the real Makisig who will do the same thing as the Makisig in her hallucination.
Moral: Do not hurry things wait for the right moment,
Be satisfied and thankful for the life that you have,
Being driven by the things you want to achieve can sometime cause you to not achieve your dreams.
